Are there restrictions on how I use music obtained from Studio 66?

Yes. The license permits usage of the music in a personal or professional context for yourself, your clients or your employer. Studio 66 music may not be sold by itself, transferred, bartered, traded, shared, leased, or given away to any other party and the license may not be subleased to a third party. Our music cannot be resold except to the extent that is embedded in your own work as part of a finished end product. You may not market the music as your own even if you add other instruments or a voice to the music. You may not sing over the music and sell or distribute the song. The above also applies to any music Studio 66 may offer free of charge on our website, including watermarked previews. Please see the Limitations of Use section of our pricing page for further information. If you are unsure whether the usage you are entertaining falls under our limitations of use, please contact us.

Is royalty free music copyright / rights free?

Absolutely not. Royalty free is the licensing option made specifically for copyrighted material. There is no need for a license if you use public domain, no copyright music.

What is a PRO?

Did you know that, after your project is completed and turned in for broadcast, the music it contains will be monitored by music performance rights organizations (PROs)? PROs are music rights management organizations who have existing agreements with TV networks, radio stations, and other public broadcasters. In the United States, they’re known as ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC; in the UK, PRS; in Canada, SOCAN; and so on. Broadcasting stations are obligated to report to PROs all the music used in their content. Based on this information, PROs will remunerate artists based on how often their music is played.

How do I report the music used in my project?

Music is reported in a cue sheet, which contains details for all the music used in an audio or audiovisual production dedicated for public broadcast. All composer and publisher information for our music is available on demand at info@studio66sa.com. Simply provide us with the title(s) of the music track(s) used and we will supply you with the necessary cue sheet information. Download Cue-Sheet Once you have completed the cue sheet, make sure you or your production company submits it electronically to every PRO listed in the sheet (see contact information below) and to the music publisher (us) at info@studio66sa.com. ASCAP: cuesheet@ascap.com or tvcuesheet@ascap.com BMI: cuesheets@bmi.com SESAC: cuesheets@sesac.com SOCAN: cuesheetsubmit@socan.com PRS: avoverseascuesheets@prsformusic.com APRA: onlinecues@apra.com.au BUMA: cuesheet@bumastemra.nl If you can’t find a PRO’s contact information, please reach out to us at info@studio66sa.com.

What is the Studio 66 License Subscription?

Subscribing allows you to have access to our entire library in wav, mp3 or FLAC format for one year. For each song, you will get a license certificate that authorizes you to use the music.

How do I download the tracks after having subscribed?

Once the subscription is purchased, you will instantly gain access to the Member Pages allowing you to download the song files and the certificates for each individual track by browsing through the music categories.

What are my purchase options?

When purchasing tracks, you have two different options. 1. You can buy the tracks individually by adding them to your cart and paying as you go. 2. You can sign up for a subscription and have access to our entire library of music for the duration of one year. There are 3 subscription options available depending on how you plan to use the music. See the Pricing Page for details.

How long are the subscription licenses valid?

You can download all the tracks and license certificates for one year following the subscription purchase but the licenses for the songs are valid forever. That means that even after the end of the subscription period you can continue to use your downloaded songs forever.

What are public performance rights and cue sheets?

To ensure that our composers are compensated by the relevant Performing Rights Organisations (PRO), cue sheets must be completed for productions that are publicly broadcast, such as TV, radio, film and theatrical productions and advertisements. For more information please see our PRO page dedicated to cue sheets. If you are unsure whether your project falls under the scope of public performance, please contact your local Performance Rights Organization (PRO).

Can I make a song or a remix with Studio66's music and distribute my album?

NO! Our music is available to license for synchronization in media productions (websites, videos, DVDs, TV broadcasts, films, games, etc.) as background music. You cannot sing over the music track or add an instrument and market the results as your own music or as your song, even if the original track has been transformed or edited or if you add other instruments or vocals to the music. You can however adapt the music for your film or video by cutting, fading, editing the length or adding voice over.

Can I return a music file and get a refund?

It is normal practice with digital goods that all sales are considered final once you have downloaded your purchase. However, if you believe the audio you downloaded is defective or an error has occured, please contact us and we will make it right.
